The Kings Arms is a grade II listed building, privately owned by Marjorie and Howard Davies since February 1976. Nic Davies, their son,
handles
the day-to-day running of the pub.
Marjorie & Howard settled here after a long and successful career in the theatre touring Australia with the Black and White Minstrels and appearing in many London shows including My Fair Lady at Drury Lane with Rex Harrison, Julie Andrews and Stanley Holloway. The origin of "FH1760" on the roof is a bit of a mystery, is it thought that "1760" refers to the date the present roof was constructed, and probably the time the building was converted from three fisherman's cottages into a pub. A common misconception is that the "FH" part stands for "Free House", but of course in those days they were all free houses. The most common theory is that it is the initials of the builder who carried out the work, and there is record of a Francis Hatfield being in such a trade around that time.
